All the Bloggers’ Personalities! (it took a lot of effort not to resort to a clickbait-y title like “ADMISSIONS BLOGGERSEXPOSED!!!!!!”) Some of you may remember that a(n embarrassingly long) while ago, I wrote a post about personality tests, in particular, the scientific invalidity of the Myers-Briggs test. Well, I also sent out a survey to the bloggers, asking them what their results were for all those personality tests! None of this, the tests themselves nor my own meta-survey asking people to take surveys, is scientific either. Mainly, I just thought this would be fun to read (since you all want to know more about the bloggers, right?!?!) and I thought it would be cool to gauge the different qualitative reactions from people to their test results. It turned out, there was a lot people had to sayabout their results and their own identities, about the tests themselves, and even just about how fun or less fun each one was. On accuracy, a common thought seemed to be, “I feel like I would get different results if I took this test in a different mood”, which to me highlights a key flaw in any kind of personality test. Humans are inherently adaptable and fluid, which means that it’s difficult to make broad claims about having a single “personality” across all circumstances. On funness, I love Elissa’s opinion on horoscopes, which is, “Horoscopes are pretty stupid but they’re fun because you know it’s stupid”, which sums up my own opinion pretty well too. There’s nothing particularly bad about these tests as long as we’re not using them to “better manage” people in workplaces or worse, while hiring people (which sadly does happen, as I wrote before). They have no place in serious evaluations of character or qualification, but a little silliness and introspection never hurt anyone. Overall, I actually thought the quotes from bloggers felt more like their personality than the various test results. I could read things and think, “hah that’s so allan” , but I wouldn’t necessarily think that just by seeing “INFP” or “Virgo”. So maybe the best way to know someone’s personality is towellget to know them! I’ll let you come to your own conclusions (and read other gems from the bloggers) for yourself! Tests Included The structure of my survey was more or less: Western Zodiac:  Many of you are familiar with the western zodiac, a series of astrological signs and corresponding personality traits (pisces, cancer, aries, virgo, etc.) based on your date of birth in the gregorian calendar. Eastern Zodiac:  Many of you may also be familiar with the eastern zodiac, a series of animals based on the year of birth in the lunar calendar. Hogwarts House:  From Harry Potter. ‘Nuff said. MBTI:  The famously problematic fake science Myers-Briggs test (read more about that here). Big 5:  The much-less-famous yet more credible Big 5 test. Enneagram:  This thing that Chris Peterson was into which I had never heard about until talking about writing this post (lol) but also seemed fun. â€Å"Off with their heads!† was the answer to most problems of the Queen of Hearts, a famous character from â€Å"Alice in Wonderland.†1 Capital punishment has always been a controversial topic with proponents of both sides presenting numerous arguments to support their positions. A large portion of these arguments are of a moral or ethical nature. Defenders of the death penalty claim that it is the only just sentence for those who have taken a life, that such people do not deserve to live, and that it invokes fear in potential killers, to list but a few. This also has an increase due to immigrants arriving from 2005 to 2050. In the United States our aging is graying at a much slower pace. By 2050 we are expected to have one fifth of our population retired. The increased number will have a huge impact on the United States structure of many programs. The rapid change can have major social and economic issues when we do not plan for them ahead of time. The postwar baby boom in the United States has strained local hospital, public school, and postsecondary education systems, as well as the labor force as these unexpected large cohorts have moved through the life cycle. About 84% of those age 65 and older suffer from at least one chronic condition, compared to 38% of those ages 20 to 44 [Wu and Green, 2000]. They are more to require the service of healthcare due to injuries and illness. They have more limitations than younger people and they use more prescription medications. They usually consume more ambulatory care, hospital service, nursing homes and home health services than younger people. When dealing with the aging we can implement many options to help them live a full and healthy lifestyle. We need to help them improve their health by getting regular exercise and not smoking, reduce the chronic disease. We also need increase the use of preventive services and help them understand that addressing the issue now will help them live a longer life. If they have a coginitive impairment, mental health issue get them address early. And provide them with education and planning for serious events. Obesity The CDC reports that obesity rates among adults in the United States doubled between 1980 and 2012. Today, over 30% of our country’s population is obese with many not feeling this is a real issue. The increased healthcare cost created by this trend shows otherwise. When you think of health many studies show being obese increases your risk for serious health. Many serious health factors are heart disease, diabetes and many cancers. This makes the risk in healthcare cost and a decline in productivity in the economy. The current obesity rates in America are more than one third. There are no real differences between men or women. Adults aged 60 and over are more obese than younger adults. With men it is no real difference in rates but with women the rate is 42 percent to 31 percent in women under 60. When you place children in the equation it is higher for adolescents than preschool aged children. The obesity rate is higher among boys than girls at an 18 percent to 15 percent rate. With fewer options for physical activity and healthy eating it becomes difficult to make good choices. Other environmental factors are energy balance with means spending too much time watching television, playing video games and these types of things than energy building activities such as bike riding or walking. Another factor is the food industry with reasonable food portions, change in what is in them and cheaper health options for the consumer that cannot afford. Demographics Overweight in adults and children has tripled and it is estimated that one in five people in the United States is overweight. We are seeing many younger people becoming obese with the higher rates in the Hispanic, African Americans, Mexican Americans and Native Americans. The lower the families income the higher the risk for obesity rate due to lack of resources to pay for them. The higher the income the more readily the healthy food options are. Trend During the past 20 years, there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the United States and rates remain high. More than one-third of U. The weeks lesson has helped me in understanding the different approaches that are being undertaken by the organizations in order to maintain the sustainability of the same in the market. On the other hand, the instructor undertook steps in order to cite examples from various organizations to make us aware of the changes in the structure and the functioning, which has helped the organizations to sustain in the global markets (Smith, 2012). The citation of the companies that have failed to sustain in the market has helped in clarifying the objective of the approaches of sustainability undertaken by the organizations. Different Views Different Views in Everyday Use In the story of ?Everyday Use? by Alice Walker the narrator told the story in a wonderful way. She was simple and I feel she gave a fair and just description of each character in the story. Her words put picture perfect description of the character in the reader's head. One example of this is when she gives a description of herself and said ?I am a large big-boned woman with rough man-working hands.? (72) This shows she is not trying to hide anything from the reader. I believe that if any of the other characters would tell the story it would show bitterness and bias towards certain aspects in the story. For example, Maggie seems to be a very shy person in the story. I feel that she would not be able to give a true description of the story in fear of being criticized. In the story Maggie is very self-conscious compared to a character like Dee who is very involved in herself and has much more self-confidence. Dee wears elaborate clothing and seems much more involved in herself than any of the other characters. When I read the line, ?Dee wanted nice things?, it showed me she seemed to very self-absorbed. The author’s line of thought begins when he asks â€Å"Do our first impressions and decisions become imprinted?† (25). He goes on to elaborate that we usually overpay for certain items when shopping, we also underestimate expenses and keep procrastinating duties we are supposed to carry out eventually. The author is keen to note that these misguided doings are not random, and neither are they senseless. Apparently, these actions are logical and foreseeable, as illustrated by the experiment showing how students’ social security numbers influenced their bids for wine (Ariely 28). The client objectives were to: Implement a single ERP system for an integrated approach to maintain accurate and complete customer data and transaction information Integrate all order-to-cash and leasing functions to streamline operations and reduce costs Data conversion from legacy system into SAP including interfacing and reconciliation between the SAP and Siebel systems Provide accurate and timely information for better decision making Manage customer relationships more strategically making it easier for customers to do business with them Drive down operating costs by 5% resulting in annualized savings Reduce the level of complexity, effort and time required to maintain and run all their systems Reduce time taken for accepting orders by 75%. The Solution The client decided to implement SAP CRM software for all their Customer Relationship Management activities. After understanding the business requirements and the aggressive implementation time frames, Patni suggested an on-site / offshore model for this project. Patni was responsible for: Creating specifications to integrate processes across applications and business units Introducing standards and procedures based on Six-sigma methodologies Improving system performance using efficient coding and design techniques Developing innovative methods to meet user requirements and in-house software for custom reports and interfaces Development of a real-time interface with Dun and Bradstreet and in-house Database using SAP CRM like BDT (Business Data Toolset) and BADI Business Application Development Interface) to validate customer information The Benefits The SAP CRM database was a centralized source of customer information for all business units. Some of the benefits were as follows: Reduced operating costs by 5%. Eliminated over 2 million duplicate and obsolete records during implementation which resulted in reduction of incorrect mailed invoices, equipment shipments and pick ups. Consolidated and reduced the approx 200,000 Customer Account Numbers to less than half that number during implementation. This reduced the compensation adjustments. Standardized customer creation and maintenance processes across business units reduced the consolidation efforts required for business information reports. Introduced new processes and creation of knowledge repository helped the client move to a process oriented approach. Increased the accuracy of information thus reducing billing errors and resulting fines. Discuss the ethical and social issues associated with usage of IS/IT in the organization. Ethical strategy: Primark has been working within its supply chains for several years prior to making its commitment public by joining the Ethical Trading Initiative (E.T.I.) www.ethicaltrade.org in May 2006. Primark defined its Ethical Trade Strategy in 2006. In 2008 they have entered the second phase of its implementation. Implementation of phase 2 will ensure that factories making 80% of all purchases are assessed. 135,120 workers employed in these units have had their working conditions assessed, and improved where necessary. Audits are conducted by Primarks own regional based Ethical Trade Managers and third party specialist auditors. 38% of our initial audits to date have been unannounced, and the rest take place within a pre agreed window. After the initial audit their Ethical Trade specialists work with the suppliers to support them through remediation. Training is offered to suppliers and their makers on particular issues and best practice, at regular intervals. Follow-up audits are conducted after three months from the initial audit. Primark has to report on its activity annually to the Ethical Trading Initiative and they have had encouraging feedback on their latest annual report. They share many of their suppliers with their competitors on the high street. All workers making these goods will be paid the same weekly wage. All new suppliers are risk assessed prior to supplying their initial orders to Primark. Primark recognizes that shared learning and collaboration is one of the most successful ways to achieve sustained positive progression with its suppliers factories. Primark participate in the ETI- supported National Home worker Group in India and are one of the founder members of the Wages Group.
